The Question: How do you deal with uncertainty, bad news, or actual suffering?

So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.

The Big Idea:

Jesus’ physical suffering is a call to his followers to put to death the old sinful life. The way I armor up is to share Jesus’ attitude of denying self-gratification, dying to self, and living to serve others.

1. Context Matters – When you see ‘therefore’, what is it there for?

2. Pronouns Matter - Who do ‘we’ and ‘they’ refer to…in every verse?

The Principles:

1. Those who are armed with Christ’s unshakable attitude have a radical new perspective on suffering.

2. Those who are armed with Christ’s unshakable attitude are done with their old lifestyle.

3. Those who are armed with Christ’s unshakable attitude consistently choose eternal life over this life.
