Holy Spirit: New Walk, New Life

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 1 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

LIE:  We can _____________ with the Holy Spirit while still holding on to our old (former) lives.

TRUTH: The Holy Spirit and your _______________________ are arch enemies and cannot will not coexist. You cannot serve two _____________. One will ‘disconnect’ the other.

“The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.”

Galatians 5:17

BIG IDEA: Connecting with the Spirit means fixing my mind on what He desires to the point of ______________.

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:18-20

3 Practical Ways to a New Walk, New Life

  1. ________________: I cannot do this alone.

  1. ___________ and _________ God daily to fill your heart and mind with His spirit daily. Psalm 51:10 (NRSV) Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

  1. ____________ Him to do it.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh.” Romans 8:1-3 (ESV)

“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” Romans 8:1-3
