Developing Biblical Convictions about Gender

Developing Biblical Convictions about Gender

  1. What Does the Bible Say?

  2. Double-check your understanding of the practice and get wise counsel.

  3. Prayer and the perspective of the Gospel.

  4. Commit to obeying Jesus no matter what it costs.

1. Where do we get our identities from?

Feelings, The Approval of others, God?

Genesis 1:27

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:28

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

*I am created by God, and I answer to God. I was created to feel no shame.

2. Can a Man become a woman or woman a man by choice or surgery?

Romans 1:21-22

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.

3. Are men and women not only physically different but also, in essence, roles, purpose, and responsibilities?

Genesis 2:21-25

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Genesis 5:2

He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.

  1. We get our identity from our creator, not our feelings or our inner voice, and we answer to our creator. There are only 2 identities (Genders), male or female, and both are in his image.

  2. It is impossible to change sexes. It is an obvious disconnect from reality.

  3. God created men and women in his image as part of a beautiful plan to become a family that would produce children and raise them in love and truth.

Now Let’s deal with the person (Pray and see it from the perspective of the Gospel)

Genesis 2:25

Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Genesis 3:10

He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Because of rejecting God mankind is broken. We all have feelings, desires and thoughts which lie to us about who we are and what is moral and good. But there is hope!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

HERE COMES THE VICE! INCLUSION OR EXCLUSION?

How do we respond? (Commit to obey Jesus no matter the cost)

2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

  • I will get my definition, role, purpose, and responsibilities for a woman or a man from Christ.

  • There are only 2 genders created by God, and the union of those two genders is an incredibly beautiful thing.

  • The answer to gender dysphoria is to find our true identity in Jesus.

Colossians 3:1-5

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

Colossians 3:12-14

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

  1. Die to this world.

  2. Be at peace in the security that you belong to Jesus. This is his fight.

  3. Put on compassion, humility, gentleness, patience, and radically love people while holding unto the truth.
