Love is the Aim
1 Timothy 1:5
The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
T = Truthful
Definition: “Being truthful is... not bending the facts to make your view or their view more favorable”
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
Who’s glory is at stake here? My personal glory or God’s glory?
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
H = Helpful
Exodus 18:13-14 NIV
“The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”
“Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.”
Approach with helpful words
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Q: We know we are to say something that is helpful, but what is helpful?
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
A: Being helpful is speaking with the intention of building up for their benefit.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
I = Inspiring
Inspiring is putting things in proper perspective!!!!!
His question: “Who is this...defying the armies of the living God?!”
1 Samuel 17:46
David answered the challenge: “...This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands ... it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.”
N = Necessary
Definition: “I’m going to do something about that!”
Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting. When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000. The Lord said to Moses, “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal. Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him. He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites.
Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
K = KIND
Doing what is best for their heart
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
