Stuck: Stop Poisoning Your Love

Ephesians 4:26-27

"Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."

Big Idea: The purer your heart, the stronger the passion. Anger, resentment, and fear have an antidote, but only a fool ignores an infected wound.

Colossians 3:8

"But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."

Colossians 3:18-19

"Wives submit to your husbands. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them."

Psalm 73:21-22

"When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.""

  1. Our unresolved anger, resentment, and bitterness is poisoning your passion.

  2. Our bitterness is a heart issue

  3. From the heart, we either nourish or poison those closest to us.

Psalm 139:23-24

"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Ephesians 4:31-32

"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

Romans 12:17-21

"Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

  1. Ask God to convict me of my sin.

  2. Pay what I owe .

  3. Ask and accept forgiveness for what I can’t pay.

  4. Love forgiven.

  1. Identify the debt (sin).

  2. Give them the bill. Forgive what they can’t pay for.

  3. Give the debt to God for collection and love them.
