Setting An Unshakable Foundation

1 Peter 1:3-5

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

What is Our Inheritance?

“...for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” v9

Setting An Unshakable Foundation

The Reliability of the Inheritance

The Release of the Inheritance

The Reason for the Inheritance

1. The Reliability of the Inheritance

...An inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power…” v 4-5

2. The Release of the Inheritance

“...Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…” v3

3. The Reason For the Inheritance

“In his great mercy…” v3

  • Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died forus.

  • Ephesians 2:4-5 – “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”

Why Are We Shaken?

  • There are no firm foundations here on earth.

  • We’re shaken when a foundation we thought was steady suddenly stumbles.

  • We expect these “foundations to carry a weight they were never meant to bear."

Becoming Unshakable

  • Realize who is giving you your inheritance: God is permanent, unshakable, and good.

  • Understand how much this inheritance cost Him.

  • Base your identity and your value on HIS terms, not yours.
