The best gift you can give them is...Character
Character is better than riches.
Proverbs 22:1
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.
Building Character isn’t necessarily comfortable.
Romans 3:3-5
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Character is better than pleasure.
Proverbs 21:17
Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he loves wine and oil will not be rich.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Character is better than popularity.
James 4:4
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Character is better than winning or achieving success.
Proverbs 22:4
The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.
1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
Philippians 2:3
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
