One Story, Two Testaments: Jesus is Enough

Word of the Day: Temptation

Have you ever tried to solve an Escape Room?

1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

5 Reasons Why Idols Were Tempting

  1. Seen vs. Unseen – Less faith

  2. Manageable – God in a box

  3. Harvest Beliefs - Superstition

  4. Fertility Beliefs - Sensuality

  5. Cultural Norm – Go with the flow

The Big Idea:

Satan often tempts us to “supplement God” rather than outright abandon him. Jesus alone, is always enough.

1 Corinthians 10:1-4 NLT

I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground.  In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. All of them ate the same spiritual food, and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ.

 5 Advantages to Appreciate

  1. Cloud - Guidance

  2. Sea - Deliverance

  3. Baptism - Identity

  4. Bread – Nourishment

  5. Water - Satisfaction

5 Temptations to Avoid

  1. Craving Evil Things

  2. Worshiping Idols

  3. Engaging in Immorality

  4. Putting God to the Test

  5. Grumbling

What is the Key to Escaping Temptation?

  • Focus

  • Urgency

  • Determination

  • Jesus is Enough!
