My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
Listen to me!
I can’t hear you until I know you hear me
I can’t believe what I am hearing
Now I will tell you what you what you’re saying!
This has now become life and death and the only solution I can see is your death
Let’s try that again but with God’s word as our guide
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen,
Be curious (You can’t already know the answer and be curios)
Ask questions (Not to prove a point or lay a trap)
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
Angry – Drawing hasty, misinformed, relationally destructive conclusions
Being right does not give you the rights your tongue says it does.
Everything everyone does makes sense to them.
Everything everyone says makes sense to them.
Everything everyone believes makes sense to them.
21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Don’t settle for being right, love them right.
