The 40 Days in the World study has been so impactful on our spirits. To celebrate the end of the study, we will have a period of fasting & worship. The fast will begin on Thursday night, November 18th, at 7pm. Then we break the fast together on Friday, November 19th, at the church and then go into an incredible night of being with God through worship.
The Bible does not tell us how to fast but always puts fasting and prayer together. The Bible does tell us not to bring attention to ourselves when we fast. The fast is between you and God. The idea is that you will feed the spirit, not the physical. So simply replace the times you would eat with prayer. When you feel hungry, let that be a reminder to pray as well.
Here are two passages to pray:
“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your Law!” Psalm 119:18,
“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19
And ask God for anything else within his will.
For this fast, let’s stick to praying for things you know God wants to do in you and our church. During the fast, you may drink water or fruit juice only. If this is not physically possible, you may have to develop another way to focus on prayer and spirituality.
Then when we come together for Worship Night, there will be pizza and fruit ready to serve (a Jersey-style feast)—followed by a special Worship night like no other one we have ever done. Look for more Worship Night details coming soon.
