Hello Everyone from the Skyline Traffic Coordinators,
Several months ago, we embarked on reaching out to the Township of Bloomfield regarding installing a crosswalk in front of Skyline which crosses Watchung Avenue. Well, we are pleased to announce that the official crosswalk has been completed. Now, here’s how you can help: the purpose of the crosswalk is to allow everyone to cross safely. We strongly recommend that you walk up to the corner of Watchung Avenue and Emerson Terrace, rather than using different areas along Watchung Avenue to cross. We have experienced that traffic on Watchung Avenue moves rather quickly and even with the official crosswalk there and with signs and markings, it is still a challenge. Crossing from other areas or from in between parked vehicles creates a dangerous situation for all. So please, please use the crosswalk.
When dropping off your family or friends, we do encourage you to utilize our drop-off zone and not Watchung Avenue in front of the Church for your passengers. Simply enter to the right of the cones placed in the street and go as far to the front of the line as possible. A coordinator will be there to assist you. Please communicate with the coordinator when entering the drop-off area to make them aware of any special needs that you may have. Avoiding the drop-off area and stopping in the middle of the street will create difficulty for vehicles approaching from Eaton Place because the street is not wide enough for two vehicles to pass through when vehicles are parked on both sides. We reserve the east side of Williams Street for the residents to park so we can be good neighbors. Should you have any special needs or concerns, please email me at joe@skylinenj.org so that I can assist you to make your arrival at Skyline as eventless as possible.
As a reminder about parking in the neighborhood: NJ regulations require that you do not park within 10 feet of a fire hydrant or within 25 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection. You cannot park within 50 feet of a stop sign. When parking near corners, be aware if you park there that you may make it difficult for someone trying to exit a side street. Now that the new crosswalks have been installed, the curbs have been marked with yellow paint and you subject yourself to receiving a Sunday ticket and it will not be to a sporting event... (a little humor there...) Remember to leave a minimum of 4 feet clearance from driveways allowing residents to easily enter and exit their driveways. Also, please remember to utilize the bank parking lots (Wells Fargo & Santander Bank) on both corners of Watchung Avenue and Broad Street.
As the Traffic Coordinators look forward to serving you, please communicate with us when entering the drop-off area of any special needs you may have. We will make every effort to assist you with your request. Thank you for your cooperation and for allowing us to serve you and our neighbors and at the same time, providing a safe area around our campus.
