Rhythms – The Lord’s Supper (Communion)
So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat 1 Corinthians 11:20
As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk. Vs 21
So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:27-28
For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 11:29-30
So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together. Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. 1 Corinthians 11:33-34
Remember and proclaim!
1. Be honest
2. Be grateful
3. Believe Jesus
4. Belong
5. I belong to Jesus and this family of believers - Celebrate this amazing place I stand. Wait something is not quite right, something is stopping me
Communion Practice
The Lord’s Supper is another rhythm of remembrance and a rhythm we can experience in community. Each month in your dinner group you’ll walk through our monthly communion practice that ties into our meditation passage for that month as well as our memory verse. The leader will walk you through the following questions.
Leader: As you look at just the past week, what did Jesus become for you? Don’t just name the sin. Describe the sinner.
He became an angry parent.
He became a judgmental friend.
He became a rude co-worker.
He became a selfish spouse.
(Hand out the bread and cup.)
Read the meditation passage again.
Leader: “As we take the bread, we remember that Jesus became our sin and was executed for it.”
(Take the bread.)
Leader: “As we take the cup, we remember that we have been washed white as snow and our record is clean because of his blood.”
(Take the cup.)
Spend time praising Him for who he became for you!
At Skyline we believe in the transformative power of the story of Jesus. Listen and learn here from our team of pastors and teachers. These sermons were all recorded at our church.
