Character
“The best gift you can give your kids”
Parenting is pretty simple.
1. Food, Shelter, Clothing
2. Character
Character – Riches
A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, Favor is better than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1
Character - Comfort
The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns, But the path of the upright is a highway. Proverbs 15:19
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him. Proverbs 10:26
Character – Pleasure
He who loves pleasure will become a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not become rich. Proverbs 21:17
Character - Popularity
You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4
Character- Winning/Success
The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches, honor and life. Proverbs 22:4
Character: strength of moral fiber.
Making Parenting Simple
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. Psalm 119:9
Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you. Deuteronomy 4:2
1. Pick up your responsibility with both hands
Morality is your responsibility (Racisim, Sex, Freedom, education, marriage, communism, Greed, etc. are not political issues they are moral issues. You either accept responsibility or you give it to someone else.)
“You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 11:18-19
2. Choose your King
Morality comes from your King. (Jesus through the bible is our King) Trying to fit into culture is rebellion against our king and bending the knee to Jesus’ enemy.
15 which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. 1 Timothy 6:15-16
3. Get ready to grow.
(Parenting like God parents you will stretch you spiritually every time.)
A righteous man who walks in his integrity— How blessed are his sons after him. Proverbs 20:7
At Skyline we believe in the transformative power of the story of Jesus. Listen and learn here from our team of pastors and teachers. These sermons were all recorded at our church.
